Immunity to Eimeria brunetti and Eimeria maxima infections in the fowl.

چکیده
INTRODUCTION It has long been accepted that the resistance developed by fowls to reinfection with the various species of Eimeria which parasitize them is species specific (Tyzzer, Theiler & Jones, 1932; Johnson, 1938). However, careful examination of data obtained in this laboratory suggested that this might not be true for those species which appear to have similar properties. A preliminary report of some cross immunity between E. tenella and E. necatrix has already been made (Rose, 1965) and further work (unpublished) has confirmed this. Because of their marked morphological and biological similarity E. brunetti and E. maxima were selected for further study on cross-immunization between the species of fowl coccidia.

Molecular Identification of Eimeria Species in Broiler Chickens in Trinidad, West Indies
Coccidiosis is an intestinal disease of chickens of major economic importance to broiler industries worldwide. Species of coccidia found in chickens include Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria brunetti, Eimeria maxima, Eimeria mitis, Eimeria necatrix, Eimeria praecox, and Eimeria tenella. In recent years, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been developed to provide accurate and rapid identification of...
متن کاملDifferential Sporulating Oocyst Count and Cross Protection Assessment of Two Immunologically Distinct Strains of Eimeria maxima; Guelph and M6 Strains
The members of the genus Eimeria infect a wide range of vertebrate hosts, such as swine, cattle, goats, sheep, rabbits, turkeys and chickens. It is now generally accepted that seven Eimeria species are recognised to parasitize the intestinal tract of the domestic fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus). Of all the Eimeria species that infect domestic fowl, Eimeria maxima is the most immunogenic species...
متن کاملApplication of polymerase chain reaction based on ITS1 rDNA to speciate Eimeria.
A method was developed to recover Eimeria spp. oocysts directly from poultry litter and determine which species of Eimeria were present using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based on the ITS1 rDNA sequence. The species composition of Eimeria oocysts was also compared before and after propagation in susceptible chickens to determine if the relative proportion of each species changed after expans...
متن کاملProtective effect of hyperimmune egg yolk IgY antibodies against Eimeria tenella and Eimeria maxima infections.
Avian coccidiosis is caused by several distinct species of Eimeria protozoa and is the major parasitic disease of poultry of economic importance. As an alternative strategy to control avian coccidiosis without using prophylactic medications, we have investigated the efficacy of inducing passive immunity against coccidiosis by orally feeding hyperimmune IgY antibodies. In this study, a commercia...
متن کاملDietary Curcuma longa enhances resistance against Eimeria maxima and Eimeria tenella infections in chickens.
The effects of dietary supplementation with an organic extract of Curcuma longa on systemic and local immune responses to experimental Eimeria maxima and Eimeria tenella infections were evaluated in commercial broiler chickens. Dietary supplementation with C. longa enhanced coccidiosis resistance as demonstrated by increased BW gains, reduced fecal oocyst shedding, and decreased gut lesions com...
